Pigeon Shooting
Mullinahone
Club History...
The
club has always had its clay pigeon enthusiasts. To
cater for these members the club held three or four club
shoots annually. These were well attended, especially during
the 70s and 80s. During the 90s however (celtic tiger years)
these shoots declined but were not let die completely.
The biggest problem was the amount of preparation and work involved in setting
up the shooting grounds, safety now been a big concern. As always this work
would fall upon the usual working members.
From about 1996 on interest in clay pigeon shooting increased with Mullinahone
participating in County shoots and buying new manual traps. We then decided "in
for a penny in for a pound" and bought an electric ball trap in 2001 which
has revolutionised our enjoyment of clay shooting.
Our grounds have now been totally revamped with car parking, walkways and fenced
off trap bays. This was done at no little expense but the benefits are many.
We can now host open clay shoots with very little effort and have to date twice
hosted the county clay pigeon shoot on our grounds.
From these county shoots teams are picked to represent Tipperary in the National
Clay Pigeon shooting finals. We are pleased to say that in 2002 a team from
Dundrum Gun Club won the National Title and will no doubt defend it this year. Our
clay grounds are available to other clubs who may wish to run shoots of their
own.
