Tobairin Domhain:-
In reply to various requests we enclose the first verse of Joe
O'Gorman’s
recent poem "Tobairin Domhain":-
They came from the valleys and hills, they came from Slievenamon
They came from Poulacapple and the came from Castlejohn
They saw it in the papers, and they heard it on the news
They heard it from the postman, Joe told us all his views
"
I was talking to Mick Quirke" He said, "about the state
of that poor place
Where me Granny got her water and I often washed me face"
"
Tis just a mortal sin", he said, "cos we don't need it
now
But wait, me boys - a time might come" and he mopped his troubled
brow
The Well is full of rubbish and muck of every sort
I wish to God I knew him, his name I would report
For anyone who would do that, to a lovely little well
Which has kept life for generations, should see a prison cell
But Joe and Mick did not ignore this drastic situation
Took off their coats and started then to inform all the nation
Stone masons came and plied their trade in such a lovely fashion
Diggers, tractors and pressure pumps were to be seen in action.
